W.L top 5 fears:

1. Bugs (especially centipedes. Why do they have so many legs!?!?!)
2. The dark
3. Mirrors
4. Washrooms (The mirrors and the noise of the toilet freaks me out at night)
5. Ghosts

My fear for bugs is pretty severe that I can't simply look at a video or image of it. It terrifies me although I know a picture of a bug cannot harm me. This has me thinking, why am I so afraid of something that cannot harm me? Its the same way how a child is scared of the dark or the boogie man. We try to teach children that monsters are only imaginary creatures yet they are still afraid of these non-existent monsters. I guess society's perception of these fears affects how we interpret them as well. I remember as a child, I was never afraid of bugs. The fear developed when my older sister was panicking over a small fly which then established my fear towards it too. The same applies for children and the boogie man. Stories and television delivers a negative message that the boogie man is dangerous. That can be one reason to why children are afraid of monsters.
